Mount Pleasant

Create Streets has been working for and with the Mount Pleasant Association on their Community Right to Build Application.

The Mount Pleasant Association (MPA) is a company limited by guarantee established by the local community group living and working around the proposed development at the Royal Mail Group’s Mount Pleasantsorting office in Clerkenwell, London.

The work of Create Streets on this project has involved taking the community’s ideas and, together with an expert team of architects planning consultants and surveyors, turning them into a financially viable alternative scheme. Create Streets has been working for the MPA to bid for the land. We have run numerous events with the MPA and their proposals have consistently received between 95-99% local support.

You can see the  Community Right to Build Order submitted to Camden here.

The MPA is in the process of formulating a Neighbourhood Plan and have been awarded funding from the GLA through the Community Right to Build Programme to develop an earlier concept design for the Mount Pleasant site into a Neighbourhood Development Order. The former Mayor of London described our work as ‘very beautiful’ and one resident added: ‘all of London would fight for ‘Mount Pleasant Circus.’

 Testimonials

“The Mount Pleasant development embodies many of the big problems facing London in our times. Create Streets have been instrumental in helping the local community achieve their aims by listening, supporting, and developing a genuinely community-led design with an appropriate and expert group of professionals. Furthermore, their passion and their commitment to a community-led approach has been invaluable in empowering the community through successful grant funding and neighbourhood planning.”

Edward Denison, Mount Pleasant Association

“This is a great example of how big developments should work – working with local communities to design real neighbourhoods that work for the existing community.”

Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London
