Master-planning

Our approach to masterplanning is centred around creating ‘homes’ not ‘units’ and ‘streets’ not ‘roads’, places where people are healthy and happy and communities can thrive. We create finely grained places with a real heart, whether that is a village green, a town square or a new high street. We look to celebrate existing natural features and weave these into a network of green spaces and tree lined streets where it is easy, safe and pleasurable to walk or cycle to the local shops or school.

We collaborate closely with the community, local authorities and the developer to co-create a vision for a place that is sensitive to context, has a positive impact and has local support. We make extensive use of our research into what makes for happy, prosperous and popular places.

This is the approach we’re trying to take on sites small and large, greenfield and brownfield and from north to south. The good news is that creating a happy place is also likely to be more popular with neighbours, more valuable to landowners and more sustainable in its land use patterns.
